  • A journey beyond limits, even though the limits sometimes are only our own mind. A performance about the unknown and what makes us proceed along the path, about the (im)possibility of moving on and the will to go back home. An exercise without boundaries, a cast with different backgrounds, an effort towards the better understanding among human beings.

A performance is created within the framework of the International INTRADANCE Project supported financially by the Euro Union.

  • Victor Hugo Pontes

Victor Hugo Pontes, the Portuguese director and choreographer, who recognizes himself puzzled when trying to answer to the question about what contemporary dance is and who gives no fixed genre definitions to his performances, says:

“Before travelling to Moscow I wondered about what could I express, in the future, with this show. I never wanted to create a show about Russia. My idea was to work with the interpreter’s material and to let the intercultural issues appear spontaneously and in due time. During the first days in Moscow I realized that this is a special city, different from others where I’ve lived or where I’ve been. I made some research on the habits of its inhabitants. I noticed a transversal impulse: we all want to know what’s going on outside the border, outside our house’s walls, outside our bedroom’s door. What motivates us to go on a journey, be it interior, inside our mind, or physical, when we go away? What happens in other places that we’re interested in? What’s beyond that fence, that mountain? What can we find on the other side of the world (when „on the other side„ assumes, in Russia, such a broad meaning that we’re incapable of grabbing it)? Is it true that in America everything’s bigger and in Europe everything is anarchic? How is it like to spend a holiday in an African country? Is there any moment when we want to go back? All these questions came across during the creative process with interpreters in a city as peculiar as Moscow. I realized that time is the longest distance between two places, that my origins are inscribed in my skin, that I don’t belong here, although at the same time this is part of my land“.

  • LIQUID THEATRE

Flowing, fluid, able to spill from one space into another may be one of the only theatres in Russia that works in the site-specific performance genre. The group’s performances grow out of the territory that the actors occupy here and now. A new production does not require a written script but an impulse, a theme, a new spring that will inspire actors and push them into unexplored directions. Once they find themselves in opposite ends of the same space, they begin to create, remembering and perfecting their various skills and experience — dance, circus, and dramatic art. Thus, blending the boundaries of street and physical theatre, LIQUID creates each of its new performances.
